a long stressful week
banging my head on the walls
hard to get things done
academia
difficult culture for me
hierarchical
work is last minute
way too much bureaucracy
no time for planning
I am committed
to creating more teachers
at what cost to me?
“I intend to be
happy while I do it”
a new point of view
there are so many
ways to make a difference
for kids with science
scared to make a change
much guilt and fear of failing
but my life is mine
time to ask for help
try to make it good for me
happiness matters
I want happy kids
they look to me for guidance
lead the way for them

What a wonderful Haiku! It evokes such powerful memories within me of what life as a teacher of kids (and adults) was like ... often thankless and discouraging, yet somehow compelling and rewarding at the same time. The power of "choice" and "intention" made all the difference for me, but that said (or rather written) ... I'm happy to be retired and away from it all. May your weekend be restful and relaxing to fill you with energy for whatever challenges next week brings your way.
Hugs and blessings,
I agree with storyteller. I found teaching to be very much a mess of bureaucratic mumbo jumbo...and filled with thankless brats. I hope you find a happy medium.
That second haiku - very true.
A very powerful haiku! I actually studied to be a teacher for 2 and a half years before changing my major--the bureaucracy seemed overwhelming and I knew in my heart that I didn't want to be a teacher enough to fight it. Something (most likely my students) would get short-changed.
But our schools need people like you--people who actually care--I hope you can hang in.
